2021 KofC Family Cookout

The St. Clare Knights of Columbus hosted their 2021 Family Cookout on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Texas Avenue Park in Webster.    We were blessed with a nice breeze, no rain, great music, a variety of games, and an abundance of food. Approximately 65 people attended the event.  A special thank you to all those that made the day possible by hauling equipment, setting up, cooking, bringing side dishes, cleaning up, packing up, and hauling equipment back.

St. Clare Knights Receive State Charity Award

Grand Knight Bill Hoff receives the Quick Start Charity Award on behalf of the Council from District Deputy, Jerry Moch.  The Quick Start Charity Award is presented to those Councils that have met their Charity Goal by December each fraternal year.  The St. Clare Knights have now met their charity goal for 15 years in a row!

Knights Receive ACE Wings

Deputy Grand Knight, Luis Zepeda, and Brother Knight, Mel Hizon, receive their ACE Wings from District Deputy, Jerry Moch.  ACE stands for Pro Life without Apology, Compromise, or Exception. To earn the ACE Wings a Knight must participate in 5 Pro Life events.

 

Deacon Bob Receives 4th Degree

Congratulations to Deacon Bob Hebert of St. Clare Parish who completed his Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Exemplification at the Shrine of True Cross on Saturday, June 19 along with Jodie McClain of St. Bernadette’s Parish.  Congratulations to everyone!

2021 Knights Volunteer at Galveston County Food Bank

The 2021 Knights Volunteer at Galveston County Food Bank on June 12.  The event was attended by the Knights and members of St. Clare Parish including several from the Parish Youth Ministry with a total of 26 people attending.  This was our first time attending the Galveston County Food Bank and our volunteers completed their work in record time.  It was a very successful event and we look forward to returning.

2021 Scholarship Awards

The St. Clare Knights of Columbus presented the 2021 Scholarship Awards to the recipients during a ceremony on Sunday June 6 after mass, and on Thursday June 10 before their Membership Meeting.  The St Clare Knights began awarding scholarships to deserving high school graduates in 2009; since then, the Knights have funded scholarships totaling more than $54,000.

This year the St. Clare Knights awarded 4 scholarships totaling $6,450 including the $3,000 James & Elizabeth Witten Scholarship.  James Witten was a 4th degree Knight, and the funding of this scholarship is one of the many ways his family honors his and his wife’s memory.

Scholarship awards are sent directly to the admitting school in August to be used for any expense posted by the school for the student. Congratulations to all of our Scholarship Winners, we are very proud of all of you!

St. Clare Blood Drive Benefiting David Rigoulot

The Knights will be hosting a St. Clare Blood Drive Benefiting David Rigoulot on Friday, June 25 from 10 am – 3 pm.  The MD Anderson Donation Coach will be set up in St. Clare Parking Lot.  David is currently being treated at MD Anderson.  David is a long time Knight and St. Clare Parishioner with 4 small children. St. Clare Knights Win 2 State Awards

The St. Clare Knights Win 2 State Awards at the State Convention in recognition of their outstanding Faith in Action Programs; the only Council in the state to win 2 awards.  The St. Clare Knights were awarded 1st place in Texas for their Food for Families Program. The Knights have held 4 volunteer events to the Houston Food Bank during the pandemic and donated $700.  A 5th event is scheduled for June 12 to the Galveston Food Bank. Thanks to Mike Hahn for leading this effort with assistance from Dennis Beckman.  The Knights were also awarded 2nd place in Texas for their March for Life Program in Austin, TX.  A total of 30 Knights participated in the event and donated much needed supplies to pregnancy centers. Thanks to Luis Zepeda for leading this effort.  Grand Knight, Bill Hoff, accepted the awards from State Deputy Alfredo Vela on behalf of St. Clare Council 9708.

 

Knights Raise Money for Wheelchairs

The St. Clare Knights raise money for wheelchairs collecting and donating a total of $3650 so far this year.    Since 2003, the Knights of Columbus has funded the delivery of tens of thousands of wheelchairs around the world, and right here at home. Thousands of veterans and their families across the United States in need of wheelchairs have received new mobility, and honor the Knights with their thanks and prayers.  In partnership with the American Wheelchair Mission, a wheelchair which retails for $500 can be purchased for just $150, changing a life forever.
